By integration of various professions including plant pathology, pesticides analysis, aquatic management, livestock production, microbial fermentation, epidemiology, and artificial intelligence, we propose to provide a solution for the bottleneck in commercialization and expanding applications of microbial products. Our interdisciplinary team jointly have developed microbial products suitable for multi-industry applications. The microbial agents of Bacillus subtilis 151B1, Bacillus licheniformis E34-01, and Bacillus coagulans BC1 in liquid and powder formulations, and spray-coating granules have been developed. These microbial agents have been proved to exhibit efficacy in plant protection and could be used as feed additives for livestock, fishes and shrimps to promote growth and protect from diseases. B. subtilis 151B1 and B. licheniformis E34-01 could not only promote the growth of various crops (eg. cucumbers, strawberry, and passion fruits etc.), but also suppress crop diseases (cucumber damping-off, cucumber Fusarium wilt, cucumber downy mildew, collar rot and anthracnose of passion fruit etc.). Additionally, these two strains have ability to degrade chemical insecticides (marathon and deltamethrin) and fungicide (tricyclazole), which can solve the problem of potential pesticide residue in the recycling application of agricultural by-product resources. B. subtilis or B. licheniformis E34-01 as feed additives for swine and broiler, it could increase the weight of pigs, reduce the odor of feces, and improve the swine and broiler raising environment. B. subtilis 151B1 and B. licheniformis E34-01 as aquatic feed additives, they could improve the size of fishes and shrimp, and also reduce pathogenic Vibrio populations, improve the water quality of fish and shrimp breeding farms, and enhance the biodiversity of macroalgae, the food source of fishes. In conclusion, microbial agents of Bacillus subtilis 151B1, Bacillus licheniformis E34-01, and Bacillus coagulans BC1 exhibited multiple functions and can be applied to the agriculture, livestock and aquaculture industries.

Fig. 1 The transdisciplinary team from the Department of Plant Pathology, the Pesticide Residue Analysis Center at National Chung Hsing University, and the Agricultural Technology Research Institute jointly discover multi-industries application potential of three Bacillus probiotics. They established a standard protocol of the fermentation and formulation technology using the pilot plant and industrial scale facilities and provided application technology in crop health care, circular agriculture, livestock and aquaculture. Fig.2. Multi-industry applications of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis based probiotic products. The probiotic products can be used in crop health care, and in the livestock and aquaculture industries. B. subtilis can protect the wax apple cultivar Tainung no. 3 from fruit rot disease, withstand chilling injury, and improve fruit quality and yield; when applied in swine raising, it can also improve the quality of pork tenderloin, increase the proportion of lean meat, and increase the water holding capacity of the meat when cooking. The application of B. licheniformis can also accelerate the growth of milkfish, and improve the fillet recovery rate.
